A sofa is an integral part of a living room. It is a piece of furniture that defines the ambience and mood of a living room. Today the user faces a dilemma of selecting between a soft, cushiony, cosy sofa which are big and bulky and a compact sofa due to the shrinking size of living rooms. We tried to solve this by designing a sofa which has a compact footprint and which is cosy and comfortable. Cocoon is suitable for modern urban living, targeting users who are settled and have a space of their own.
Strategic Research
While developing the Cocoon range we considered the user context and the brand perspective. We conducted research in metro cities like Mumbai & Bangalore to understand how users enhance their living room experience, what is the role of furniture to facilitate a better environment and the kind of activities they have in a living room.
Product
Cocoon as the name suggests is an organic form which is cosy and reassuring. The cocoon like form allows a person to adapt various postures and fit into it. The hugging shape of the sofa embrace the user body with its soft comfortable fabric feel. Comfort in a sofa is usually associated with the form and feel of the upholstery. The woven cotton fabric for the seat and back has a comfortable feel while the outer leatherette skin helps in easy cleaning and maintenance of the sofa. The curvature, the relative back angle to the seat, the back curvature and the height of the arms are worked out such that it creates a harmony with one another.
